Urns
After the cremation has taken place, the ashes are placed in an urn. Crematoria normally have a standard ash urn which is used if the bereaved have not chosen another. In the same way as with coffins, there are also urns in different colours, shapes and materials.
Choice of urns
With us in Jølstad, you can choose between the crematorium’s standard urns, or urns made of various materials such as bamboo, birch, cherry wood and pine.
The Funeral Act has set requirements for how an urn should be designed and which materials can be used. The urn must consist of organic material that is decomposable in soil within the conservation period that applies to the burial ground. An urn must not be more than 40 cm high, 25 cm wide and 25 cm long. The opening for filling in ash must be at least 63 mm in diameter.
All our urns are environmentally friendly and made from materials and designs that comply with current regulations.
Urn lowering or scattering of ashes
After the cremation, one can choose to create a grave site with urnenedssettelsen, or to scatter the ashes in nature as an alternative to burial. Until the urn is lowered or the ashes are to be scattered, the urn is kept at the crematorium or with the cemetery authority.
